SOS Children's Village is a non-profit organization that works globally to protect and care for children who have lost their family. Founded in 1949, the organization works with national governments, donors, and communities to create safe homes and to offer opportunities to the world's neediest children. SOS Children's Villages also collaborate with the United Nations to ensure that the future of children is included in initiatives such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In Mexico, SOS Children's Villages has worked for decades in Mexico City, Tijuana, Morelia, Comitán and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, helping thousands of children each year. In Mexico City, the organization has spent almost fifty years of providing children with education, security and affection. At the end of 2019, SOS Children's Villages supported 1,700 children and adolescents in Mexico.
January is the month when International Education Day is celebrated. The day, which was proclaimed by the United Nations, was first celebrated on January 24, 2019. UNESCO, the UN committee dedicated to the preservation of natural and cultural resources, claims that education it is a fundamental right of children.
The celebration of International Education Day this year, according to UNESCO, recognizes that education - and the potential it develops in children and adolescents - are the most important renewable resources of humanity.
SOS Children's Villages works to ensure that orphaned children have the same educational opportunities that every young person deserves. One of the main goals of SOS Children's Village is to improve children's lives by providing them with a high-quality education so that children have opportunities in work and in life, preparing them for independence.
The businessman and ecological development specialist Daniel Madariaga Barrilado is also interested in the education of children.
